The Project Team

Taylor & Murphy leads the project, providing grading, drainage, and traffic control. Chris Britton (above right) leads the team. He has more than 25 years of expertise in building roads and bridges in western North Carolina. John Herrin (above left) of T&M is the construction project manager; he also brings decades of road building experience to the table.
Florence & Hutcheson completed the roadway designs, headed by Dennis Mory, a P.E. with 20 years of expertise. Florence & Hutcheson has worked with NCDOT for more than 15 years.
Ralph Whitehead Associates completed structure designs led by Mark Robbins, P.E., who has completed multiple projects in NC, SC, VA, and GA including many interstate widening projects.
Ko and Associates manages the traffic control and signage. Mark Acuff, P.E., and Mike Rzepka, P.E., both experienced transportation engineers, manage this portion of the project.
Hydraulics and erosion control fall under Sungate's domain. Frank Fleming, P.E., formerly with the NCDOT Hydraulics Unit, manages this function.
Mulkey Engineers and Consultants manages construction, inspection and engineering, led by Greg Jones, P.E.
Many other subcontractors also assist in this project, including APAC-Ballenger doing concrete paving, and APAC-Asheville, doing asphalt paving.
